Beautifully crafted professional tool!

After reading the five previous reviews, I had to order this gaiwan. I'm not disappointed! It's really well crafted and easy to use. It's small enough for my one-handed "sandwich" hold with all three parts, which fit securely together like a hand in a glove.
To my surprise and delight mine came with an orange-brown edge on the bowl, unlike the full white one in the picture. It gives it a little touch of colour which is nice.
I was on the fence for a while about spending so much on this gaiwan when I have cheap ones that work fine, but I'm glad I did because this is really one fit for professional tea masters and the difference in use is really obvious. I don't think a gaiwan could get any better than this!

Precision brewing

This gaiwan is like a well honed knife. It allows you to brew your tea very accurately if you know what you are doing.
It has quickly become my go-to for brewing all kinds of tea because it allows for such great control during the earlier brews.
In my opinion this is a great choice if you have been enjoying tea for some time and are looking for the next step in terms of teaware.

beautifully made

This is a beautifully made gaiwan with very fine porcelain in the bowl and the lid. The lip of the bowl is very thin and turns outward quite sharply and enough so that I find it possible to fill very close to the top with boiling water yet still handle it - carefully of course - without getting burned. The lid fits almost perfectly on the bowl and has a very thin edge which helps to keep it stable when pouring. The bottom of the bowl fits snugly in the saucer, which I guess would be very useful for anyone who does a two-handed pour or who drinks from the gaiwan grandpa style. The only thing I don’t like about this gaiwan is that I wish there was a slight thickness at the crown of the lid, where I put my index finger for pouring - it gets hot because the lid is so thin. However, I have gotten used to it and adjusted my pouring style so that I put the tip of my finger on the wall of the crown instead of directly on the lid, and because the lid fits so snugly, the pressure is enough to keep it in place. All in all a really nice gaiwan that has helped me to improve my technique, and because it is so well made, it does not hold on to heat between infusions which makes it easy to handle and does not cook the leaves.

Very nice

Very nice - super thin and great for just one person or more. Good rim too which made it comfortable to handle with my small hands.
