Special Collection Shan Kiln Ruyao Kyusu 200ml
Most of the handmade ruyao teapots listed are considered "half-handmade" in China. This means that although the teapots are shaped by hand, the artist works with the help of a moulding tool for the main body (the spout, handle, etc. are completely shaped by hand). In the case of this teapot, no such tools are used and the entire teapot is shaped entirely by hand. Very few of these models were made by Lee Shanming and each one is slightly different and unique.
Lee ShanMing has devoted himself to ru kiln products for over 15 years. His signature is on the bottom of the pot, it says "Shan" 善. "Shan" is the middle character of the artist's name, it means kindness. Mr. Lee is one of the foremost Ruyao artists in China and his studio, Shan Kiln, sets the standard in the country for true ruyao.
This ancient pottery technique known as Ru Kiln (Ruyao) originated during the Song dynasty. It is one of the finest quality traditional Chinese crafts on the market.
