Wood Fired Jingdezhen Porcelain Doucai Meiyintang Chicken Tea Cup 柴烧斗彩鸡缸杯, 95ml
Capacity: Approximately 95ml
This cup is handmade and painted and was fired in a traditional wood kiln.
This is a fanggu reproduction of the famous Doucai Meiyintang Chicken Cup.
The blue pigment (Qinghua 青花) is hand painted onto the porcelain first, and then a glaze is applied. The cup is then fired at a high temperature in a traditional wood kiln. Once removed from the kiln, the other colours are hand painted onto the surface of the glaze, and the cup is fired once more in an electric kiln.
This process of painting a blue pattern or picture underneath the glaze, and other colours on the surface of the glaze is called Doucai 斗彩. It is a time-consuming and labour-intensive technique for painting porcelain that originated during the Ming Dynasty.
Because each piece is hand-painted there will always be a slight variation between cups, each piece is unique. This studio strictly follows the traditional Jingdezhen techniques.
