Teapots made of dicaoqing mined from Huanglong Mountain No. 5 Mine.

As mentioned in our newsletter and on social media back in October, we were saddened to hear that Chen and Lin had exhausted their supply of aged Dicaoqing from Huanglonshan No. 4 Mine. A favourite of ours, we found dicaoqing to be one of the most versatile clays with a classic appearance that only improves over time.

Anticipating the end of his supply of dicaoqing clay, Lin Hanpeng had purchased a large amount of raw dicaoqing ore mined from Mine No. 5 in Huanglongshan. The raw ore was processed into clay and then stored for ageing in late 2018.

We weren't expecting to receive any new dicaoqing teapots until March. However, after testing at the end of 2019, the clay performed well and was found to be ready for use. We have just received our first small batches of teapots in this clay and will be receiving more after the Chinese New Year Holiday. We can say that we are very happy with the new batch, finding it performs just as well as the older supply.

We have big plans for this clay in 2020. Stay Tuned!
